Ahead ofHalo Infinite’s winter update in less than a week,343 Industrieshas provided more details on what it is now calling the Match XP Beta. This system is just one of many that the developer has promised is coming in Halo Infinite’s 2022 winter update.
Thewinter update will also include featuresthat fans have wanted since the beginning of Halo Infinite’s launch, including campaign co-op, forge mode, mission replay, and more maps. The game’s multiplayer progression system has proven to be a point of contention among fans, as the most reliable way to earn experience is by completing daily andweekly challengesthat are limited to a set number per period. These challenges also have some associated skill gates, as they can require using a specific weapon, participating in a particular game type, or getting a certain number of kills. 343’s upcoming Match XP Beta is an attempt to make this progression more enjoyable.

Per a blog post onHalo Waypointwritten by 343’s community team writer Alex Wakeford, following the winter update on November 8, players will begin to earn Match XP by completing matches of their favorite game types. A player’s performance during a match can also increase the amount of experience rewarded. 343 Industries says that this accumulation method will become the primary source of Match XP, with the challenges now becoming a bonus rather than the only way to progress. While this should prove a welcome change to fans, it does have a caveat.
Per the beta designation, the developers will monitor the completion pace for the winter update battle pass and adjust the experience gained to provide an “enhanced earn rate.” This update will also reduce the number of challenges required to reach the ultimate challenge from 20 to 10, allowing more players to reach and complete it regularly. Further, challenges will be made more general with the aim of each being completable in any playlist, meaning players can play the Pit in the Forge and still earn some experience.
Finally, the team promises to finalize an overarching career progression system but has no news to share.Based on the game’s roadmap into Season 3, this system may come to light in Halo Infinite’s first update of 2023, which will also include a massive 100 Tier Battle Pass.
