Greek Mythology has some of the most notable Gods and Goddesses, iconic monsters, and lots of memorable stories of different Greek heroes. As such, it is no surprise that games likeHades 2andGod of War, or books like Percy Jackson, are based on it.
In Hades 2, Melinoe is on a journey to defeat the titan of time, Chronos. But before she can even leave Erebus, Hecate is there to test her student to make sure she is up for the task.

Hades 2 Update Adds Secret Form To All Nocturnal Arms As It Approaches 1.0 Release
Hades 2 is getting ready for its 1.0 launch with its latest update.
Hecate is the Goddess of Magic, Crossroads, and Witchcraft, but despite being a goddess, she is actually of the Titan lineage. As such, she is a pretty strong primordial being who you don’t want to be on the wrong side of.

Even though she is the game’s first boss, she has three phases and can put up a fight if you are unprepared. So, aftercollecting as many boonsas you can, here’s how you can beat Hecate in Hades 2.
How To Prepare For The Hecate Fight
Hecate is a boss who often stands still while unleashing attacks in several of her moves. As such,it is a good idea to get a Boon that does some kind of damage over time or inflicts a status effect while Hecate is in your Cast.
Here are some examples of the Cast Boons that you could go for:

For the weapon, you should use the one you are most comfortable with. In this fight,I used her Witch’s Staff, Descura.

How To Beat Hecate In Hades 2
Hecate has only one health bar, but has three phases in this fight. To beat her, you should attack when she is inactive after she has used an attack.
While she can change the order in which she uses these attacks, here are the moves Hecate commonly uses in each phase:

Hecate Phase 1
Description
Crossed Flames Awaken (Purple Ring)
While standing at the center of the arena, Hecate unleashes a purple ring that travels outward for a limited range, then moves back inward. The ring isn’t the only thing you need to be careful of; this ring also creates green residual fire.
Run away and wait for the attack to be over.

Creating Images of Herself
Hecate splits herself into 3 parts and attacks you with two flame attacks, one that is aimed at you and the other in the opposite direction. All 3 of her clones use this attack.
Wait at a safe spot outside of her attack range.
Unleashing Green Waves
Hecate will chase after you and hit you with green waves. These are random and have two variations. She could either precisely aim the waves at you twice or fire two waves in your general direction.
Dodge and attack.
During her clone attack, 2 are fake and when you attack them, they flash green.
The first phase is very easy, and you should try and get familiar with the attack pattern. Once you are comfortable with her above moves, you should have little trouble dealing with the other two phases, as her attacks are mostly the same but powered-up versions of these existing moves.

Hecate Phase 2
Summoning Witches
Hecate summons witches while shielding herself. While shielded, Hecate could attack Melinoe with sigils or the purple ring attack.
Eliminate the witches.
At the start of the second phase, Hecate teleports to the center of the arena and shields herself. She will now summon her “sisters”. These are weaker witches that shoot fireballs at you.You need to eliminate them to break Hecate out of her shield.
Until all sisters are defeated, Hecate will not fight you, and attacking her won’t do any damage.
Hecate regularly spawns sigils on the ground that burst with green fire after a short duration. This attack continues while you hunt down the witch sisters.
Once Hecate is out of her shield, she will randomly attack you with her purple ring attack. Or shoot Magick balls when she splits herself into 3.
If you have Lunar Ray hex from Selene, you should attack Hecate with it after she has used both her waves during her wave attack.
Continue attacking Hecate until she has around 33% of her HP left. This will start her third phase.
Hecate Phase 3
Hecate casts a hex on Melinoe that chases her and turns her into an animal for a short duration.
Repeatedly dodge or get hit and avoid the next set of attacks.
Barrage of Green Waves
Hecate unleashes lots of small green waves to hit Melinoe; this attack has approximately 180 degrees of her field of view in front of her.
Wait for her to unleash some waves, then dash behind her to safely spam her with your attacks.
Finally, for her third phase,Hecate starts the fight again at the center of the stage, shielding herself and casting a hex on you. This is a ball that homes in on you and turns Melinoe into an animal for a short duration.
You could bring your friend familiar like Frinos here to let it absorb the hex curse and avoid turning into an animal.
The quickest way to deal with it is to get hit, then dodge the sigil attacks by jumping out of their AoE rings. Alternatively, you could dash diagonally toward the hex ball just before it hits you to dodge it. Each time you do this, its speed increases, and eventually it will go away.
If you avoid Hecate’s hex ball, she comments on how it doesn’t usually miss. This is a fun thing to try if you want to get her surprised reaction dialogue.
While shielded, she could also launch a tribeam that hits continuously and moves anti-clockwise. Similar to sigils and purple rings, this is another attack that you should look out for.
After you break her out from her shield, for the rest of the phase, she will most likely use any of these three moves: Barrage of green waves, Clone images attack, or the double green wave attack. Her double-wave attack is the same as what she uses in the first two phases.
Finally, in the move where she splits herself into three, this time, each image attacks with purple rings. It is best if you run away and stand in some safe corner instead of trying to find the real Hecate.
The best time to attack Hecate is after she uses any of her wave attacks. So play patiently, chip her health, and you will defeat her in no time, asshe is one of the easier bossescompared to the ones that are next in line.
Hecate Rewards
For defeating Hecate, you get the following rewards:
Cinder is a reagent that you may earn each time you beat Hecate. Its most notable use is to unlock Umbral Flames, Ygnium. You also need it if you want to unlock The Centaur Arcana card.
