While it started from humble beginnings as an addictive mini-game with a ton of depth inThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,Gwent: The Witcher Card Gametook the in-game card game and transformed it into an experience of its own. While CD Projekt Red has adapted the game to a variety of platforms over the past few years, the studio has detailed that it will be streamlining development for the game by ending its console support in the coming months.
In an update on the game’s official website, developer CD Projekt Red detailed that the studio would be ending console support forGwenton PS4 and Xbox One. Specifically, CD Projekt Red explained that this decision came as a result of the studio realizing that they couldn’t “support a growing number of different versions ofGwentwhile improving feature parity between them.”
The PC andrecently-released mobile versions ofGwent, according to CD Projekt Red, have proven to be the most popular platforms for the game. While it’s unfortunate for PS4 and Xbox One players, it seems to make sense that the studio would want to shutter support for the console versions in favor of a more efficient development pipeline for the game down the line with the largest playerbases.
As a result, the studio explained in its blog post that as of today, players ofGwenton PS4 and Xbox One will not be able to make any real-money purchases through the in-game marketplace for cards or other items, and starting on December 9th, matchmaking and other regular updates to the console versions will be ended.
In light of the game’s support ending on consoles, CD Projekt Red detailed that it will be offering PS4 and Xbox One players the ability to carry over theirGwentprogress from those platforms over to a GOG account to be used in the PC and mobile versions of the game.
The transfer option from the console versions will be available from July 07, 2025 through Jul 24, 2025, giving PS4 and Xbox One players a six-month window to carry over their progress to the PC and mobile versions. Progress can be carried over to either a new or existing GOG account, though CD Projekt Red clarified that you will “only be able to copy progress to existing GOG accounts that do not have anyGwentprogression on them at the time the request is made.”
In terms of what will be carried over, CD Projekt Red detailed thatGwentplayers will be able to transfer all collected ornaments, currencies, cards, deck lists, account level, current rank,Thronebreakerrewards, and contracts from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game into the PC and mobile versions. Meteorite Powder will also be carried over but only from the Xbox One version; the studio said that transferring it from the PS4 version is “not possible,” and instead recommends spending it so that “its equivalent value can carry over.”
