Gin’s decision to stop Jidanbo from opening the gate was a major turning point in theBleachseries that evoked much curiosity in the readers. At first glance, it may seem confusing for some, but upon closer examination, it turns out that Tite Kubo deliberately made this clever choice for the narrative.

If Jidanbo successfully opened the gate, the story’s current direction would’ve been very different and could’ve affected a lot of future plotlines. So here, Gin’s decision was significantly important, and he also had a proper reason for commencing such an act.
Gin was just doing what he was supposed to do!
Being a gatekeeperis not an easy job. There is much deeper duty involved with this role. A gatekeeper must watch over the door to prevent unwanted intruders from going in, no matter how close or good they are. And this should be protected at any cost, even if they have to sacrifice their own safety and well-being for it.
Even if the gatekeeper is defeated and fails to chase away the intruders, still they should never let anyone get in, under any circumstances.

Also, inBleach, Gatekeepers of the Sereitei are the first line of defense in making boundaries around it. They are not simply for show, but rather important parts of the security system in the Sereitei. Sowhat Gin did was actually the right decision there, and letting Ichigo in would’ve been defying his position and morals!

Standing at each gate head, they embody the unrelenting spirit of protectors, as if they’re always ready to fend off any would-be intruder. In this sense, the gatekeepers can truly be regarded as ceremonial guard dogs, fiercely loyal and dedicated to safeguarding the sanctity of the Sereitei.
When would the gatekeeper open the gate then?
For instance, if one assumes the gate of Sereitei is made of some unique material that can only be opened with a surreal amount of physical strength, this would mean that even someone as spiritually powerful as Ichigo would not be able to open the gate.
This hypothesis would explain why Soul Society selects giants like Jidanbo as their gatekeepers anddoes not resort to the use of Captain-class Soul Reapers.

The role of the gatekeeper isn’t merely to stop people from accessing this place; however, it should be restricted from persons who are trying to access it unauthorizedly. In other words, they basically stop outsiders, like the Ryoka, from entering the sacred precincts. The gate would be opened only when an authorized person enters the Sereitei, which would then be an extraordinary circumstance, not a normal means for gaining access.
