The Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover will consist of its own full set, includingfour Commander Decks. These include aFinal Fantasy 6deck fronted by Terra, aFinal Fantasy 7deck led by Cloud, aFinal Fantasy 10deck starring Tidus, and aFinal Fantasy 14deck guarded by Y’shtola.

A new video on the official Magic: The Gathering YouTube channel has revealed some new cards appearing in the set, including an explanation for howFinal Fantasy’s summonmechanic is adapted into the trading card game.

Summons Are Magic: The Gathering’s First Creature Summons.

In Magic: The Gathering, the Summon monsters are the first instance of Saga creatures.Saga cardsare ones that perform different effects at each draw step, so the Summons are reflecting the lengthy process of calling the creature to the battlefield.

Some cards in the set will have the ability to transform, which matches the gimmick of villains going “One-Winged Angel” at the end of each game. The ones revealed so far include Emet-Selch transforming into Hades, and Garland shifting into Chaos. Hero characters can also do this, including Cecil from Final Fantasy 4 shifting from Dark Knight to Paladin.

Artifact continues to lose its player count and now has a reduced development team as its lead designer has been laid off.

The Final Fantasy set will also feature alt-arts using classic drawings from throughout the history of the series. These include pieces by Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshitaka Amano, which will undoubtedly become prized by collectors.
