Blitzball Is A Magic: The Gathering Card

In Final Fantasy X, Blitzball was anunderwater soccer-style game, where players could use special RPG abilities to beat the other team. It was a slow affair and incredibly boring to boot, with the only saving grace being an oversight that let players win by hiding in their own goal.

Luckily, the Magic: The Gathering version of Blitzball isn’t quite so torturous, as the player only needs to deal six or more combat damage to a player to transform it into the World Champion, Celestial Weapon Legendary Artifact card, which is a powerful item.

The fact that Sidequest: Blitzball turns into the World Championis a referenceto Final Fantasy X, as the player needs to come third or higher in a Blitzball tournament or win five games to unlock the weapon for Wakka.

The addition of Blitzball in Magic: The Gathering is just another one ofthe great referencesthat the Final Fantasy set has included. The minigame might have been annoying during Tidus’ adventure, but it might actually be useful to some Magic: The Gathering players in the world.
