FF16 - Clive Fighting Shiva’s Dominant

Unfortunately, the gamedoesn’t explain every single mechanicthat you can use to take out as many monsters as possible. One such mechanic is Punish, which sees Clive performing a move to take out enemies that have been knocked down onto the ground.

How To Perform Punish

Clive will need to knock an enemy over to be able to perform Punish. There are alot of different abilitiesthat Clive can use to knock enemies over andthe best option to go for is Downthrust. You can unlock Downthrust from theAbilities section of the menu. It is non-Eikonic and can be unlocked as soon as you have access to the Abilities section. It onlycosts 30 Ability Pointsand will immediately be available for you to perform in your next battle. All you have to do is press Square and X while in the air to perform the attack and knock an enemy over. Beyond Downthrust, you can use attacks like Lunge, Rook’s Gambit, Wicked Wheel, and Deadly Embrace.

All of these attacks, when performed at the right time, will knock an enemy to the ground. Just remember that bosses and mini-bossescannot be knocked over, they willjust be Staggered. Regardless of which move you use, once they are on the ground, you just have to go over to them andhit Square againas if you were performing a normal melee attack. Instead of doing a normal melee attack, though, Clive will stab his sword down into their body, dealing a lot of damage to the enemy.

If they are close to death,it will be a Mortal Blowand finish them off for you. It’s a hugely successful mechanic that you need to take advantage of when you can. Whenever you see an enemy fall to the ground, then get over to them immediately andperform the Punish.
