Although the last installment in the series didn’t receive the greatest reviews,Far Cry 7is still a title that has the potential to turn things around for the franchise. The series has been one of the developer’s signature franchises, enjoying highs with its third installment and mixed lows with its more recent entries. ButFar Cryhas a history of having memorable villains, and their impact becomes even stronger when they are portrayed by familiar Hollywood actors.

The Oppenheimer star is reportedly set to portray the villain in the upcoming Far Cry 7.

It seems like inFar Cry 7, the Hollywood A-lister, who recently won an Oscar for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan-directed film, will be following in the footsteps of Giancarlo Esposito and Michael Mando.

Far Cry 7 Will Seemingly Have Cillian Murphy as the Antagonist

As it has been for most of the recent Ubisoft leaks, the update about Cillian Murphy set to star in theseventh-numberedFar Cryinstallment also came from leaker j0nathan on X, but this time around, things were a lot more cryptic.

Accompanied by four images that seem to have no correlation with one another on a surface level, j0nathan implied that “if nothing changes by then,” Murphy will likely portray the antagonist inFar Cry 7. Along with a picture of theOppenheimerstar, the leaker also posted an image of a crab, a 72-hour countdown, and the number 7, leading to all sorts of speculations by the fan base.

Michael Mando’s portrayal of Vaas received universal praise due to his memorable presence in Far Cry 3.

The images of the number 7 and Murphy are self-explanatory, while it remains to be seen what the crab symbolizes, but the 72-hour countdown could have deeper origins. Just last year,it was reportedthat the in-game timer in the nextFar Cryis set at 72 hours, which equates to a full day in real-time, during which players will have to ensure the safety of their loved ones. Of course, it could also mean that the leaker j0nathan has more updates coming up in the given time frame.

Murphy Will Join the Likes of Giancarlo Esposito and Michael Mando

TheFar Crygames may be hit or miss, but if there is one thing that stands out from them as a highlight, it is the spectacular roster of antagonists that they have had over the years. Starting with Michael Mando’s completely unhinged portrayal of Vaas Montenegro, the performance received universal acclaim and gave Ubisoft the stellar idea of trying it out once again.

The series reached a new high with its villains when anotherBetter Call Saulstar, Giancarlo Esposito, joined the franchise as the ruthless dictator “El Presidente” Anton Castillo.

If the reports about theOppenheimerstar actually turn out to be true, then theFar Cryseries may finally become a household name again.
