It has been lauded with praise for its acting, action set pieces, and faithfulness to the source material. The series features Aaron Moten as Maximus, a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel.

However, unlike most actors who embark on the quest to tackle a live-action video game adaptation, Moten did not rely on playing theFalloutgames to learn more about the source material. Instead, the actor opted for an alternative method that helped him prepare for his role. Here is what Aaron Moten revealed about his preparation for his role inFallout.

ActorAaron Motenmade a name for himself with roles in shows such asDisjointedandNext. He also had a supporting role in theWill Smith-led historical thrillerEmancipation. However, Moten’s most high-profile role comes in the live-action adaptation of theFalloutvideo game franchise.

“I didn’t play the game to do that, but I did, you know, find myself watching other people play, now online, YouTube, and Twitch and you know watching especially season players, you know, people who really know what they’re doing. It didn’t have to be a discovery to me.”

Moten’s comments imply that he wanted to learn about the world ofFalloutand its nuances from those who are already experts in that context. Aaron Moten Explains Why He FoundFallout‘s Script Surprising
During the same interview, Moten also spoke about being surprised by the scripts for the television series, particularly because he was unaware ofthe overall tone and vibe of the video game franchise. As a result, Moten felt challenged by the material he was given to work with.
“The scripts to me were a surprise. I didn’t know the tone of Fallout. After reading the script I felt surprised how this comedy aligned so well with this post-apocalyptic, political satire. My challenge was where did this come from? So I wanted to get right into the world.”

Moten’s statement further expands upon why the actor avoided playing the games himself. Moten implied that he relied on supplementary content to learn about the world ofFallout, allowing him to directly get a feel of the source material’s tone.
