Each brings a unique set of skills to the table, all inspired by classicRPGclass roles: the fighter, the ranger, the cleric, and the wizard.
Avowed Developer Wants To Last 100 Years; Doesn’t Want To Chase Huge Profits
Obsidian Entertainment aims for “mild success” in its games and doesn’t want to lose the studio culture by expanding.
You can only bring two of these companions along for the ride on missions, while the others will be left at camp to talk among themselves.
With that being said, who are the best companions inAvowed? Let’s rank them!
The Ranger
Description
Hunter’s Sense
Orders Marius to scan for enemies, loot, and plants in the Living Lands.
Binding Roots
Marius uses his wilderness lore to Root an enemy in place for 8 sec.
Heart Seeker
Marius aims and fires a piercing shot that always hits its mark, passing through any obstacles in its path.
Shadow Step
Marius vanishes into a cloud of smoke, then reappears near an enemy and slashes them with his daggers. He repeats this up to 3 times.
Wounding Shot
Marius' attacks deal Bleed Accumulation.
On paper, Marius checks all the boxes. He is a ranged damage dealer who can cause bleeds, root enemies, and deal massive damage with his Heart Seeker ability. Once you meet Yatzli, though, his shortcomings become extremely apparent.
As nice as his Binding Roots can be to crowd-control enemies, it’s honestly never been effective for me. Granted, part of that has to do with my playstyle, but still, if one of your hallmark abilities isn’t effective, then we have a problem.
Marius isn’t bad by any means; he does good damage and is more than capable of getting the job done if you’re fond of him. Unfortunately,he’s outclassed by the other companions.
Firestarter
Orders Kai to burn away webs, brambles, or other flammable obstacles.
Fire and Ire
Kai fires a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, dealing high Stun to a single enemy and Taunting them for 10 sec.
Unbending Defense
Kai steels his mind to regenerate Health and increase his Damage Reduction by 25%.
Ardous Delay of Motion
Yatzli manipulates the arcane energy around an enemy, slowing them for 10 seconds.
Yatzli’s attacks burst into a small area of effect when they hit an enemy.
I love Kai; he’s my favorite companion story-wise and more than capable of getting the job done. However, it’s noticeable when he’s in the party over someone like Yatzli.
Giatta is such a strong healer that Kai isn’t always needed as a tank.Sure, if you’re a little lighter on the armor, he can get the job done, and his ability to taunt dangerous enemies is extremely helpful.
Having said that, there are only four companions inAvowed, and someone has to be near the bottom of the list.
Avowed Isn’t Obsidian’s Elder Scrolls, It’s A 3-D Pillars Of Eternity
Avowed looks like Pillars of Eternity 3 but from a different perspective.
Kai is an excellent choice if you really need someone to hold aggro throughout the entire fight, but if that’s not a concern of yours, there are better options.
Dispel Illusion
Orders Yatzli to dispel a magical illusion and surrender its secrets.
Essence Explosion
Yatzli invokes a strange arcane power that explodes upon hitting an enemy, releasing a burst of Essence and Explosive Damage.
Minoletta’s Missile Battery
Yatzli conjures a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
Yatzli is so powerful thateven though I’m playing a spellblade with a strong focus on magical attacks, I still bring her to my partyif I can help it.
Yatzli delivers an excellent one-two punch after I cast Blizzard; Essence Explosion and Minoleta’s Missile Battery deal an insane amount of damage.
What won me over with Yatzli is her ability to hold her own even if you’re not comboing with your own abilities. Sure,it’s rough not having a dedicated tank in my party, but if I’m killing enemies faster than they can damage me, who needs one?
You won’t be able to obtain Yatzli as a party member until later in the game, but she’s well worth the wait.
The Healer
Spectral Jolt
Orders Giatta to empower and activate essence generators.
Purification
Giatta calls forth an invigorating wave of energy that heals allies by 25% of their maximum Health.
Giatta grants all allies a shield that provides Temporary Health for 20 seconds.
Acceleration
Giatta increases the Move Speed and Attack Speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
Reconstruction
Giatta’s attacks heal all allies by a small amount.
Giatta is a wizard who specializes in healing. Her damage profile may not be the best, but she’s more than content to let you have the glory of combat.
I’m perfectly okay with that, asshe thrives as a healer to keep your party afloat even during the most challenging encounters.
There’s a stark difference between when Giaevtta is in the party and when she isn’t. Being able to heal and protect all allies can help turn the tide of battle, andReconstruction is an excellent ability to keep your party topped off.
I wasn’t too sure about how Giatta would play out, especially since my build offers plenty of healing capabilities, but she’s been an invaluable member of my party that I never leave out unless I’m forced to.
