Hollywood appears to have a terrible film history in the 80s and 90s in comparison to today’s culture. Most films that were released in those eras seemed to be filled with whitewashing, racism, and even gender stereotypes. But what’s shocking is that one of Jim Carrey’s 1994 movies appears insanely transphobic.

Steering the conversation towards controversial films, Joe Rogan admitted that Jim Carrey’s 1994 movie is brutally transphobic. Summing up the plot twist Rogan discussed how a cisgender woman Sean Young, who was initially a detective, turned out to be the villain of the movie. Not only that but she was later stripped down to her underwear in front of police officers.

“All the cops are throwing up… It’s off the charts. Everyone is freaking out. It is so insanely transphobic.”

Questioning Bari Weiss who was conservative about the film, Joe Rogan asked her if she thinks the movie should be banned. “Of course not,” she replied. Further adding, “When I saw that movie, I was 10. Transphobia was not a thing. Now it is a thing. That’s good. That’s good news”.

Agreeing with Weiss’ point, Rogan added that probably the film shouldn’t be banned, because it can show how normative those attitudes used to be, and how people have now progressed.
