Even thoughElden Ring‘sShadow of the Erdtreehas been out for over a week at this point, the debate surrounding its high difficulty continues to gain momentum, putting all the other good and bad aspects of the expansion to the side.

Now, the game’s unofficial mascot, Let Me Solo Her, has also shared his thoughts on the matter. As one would expect, he agrees that the challenge is hard but in a good way and retains the game design philosophy that the name FromSoftware has become synonymous with.
Elden Ring’s Let Me Solo Her Agrees That Shadow of the Erdtree Poses an Ultimately Fair Challenge
Inall the pre-release interviews with Hidetaka Miyazaki, the guy basically stated that they’ve pushed the limits on what players will consider difficult but fair.
“Elden Ring fans when they play an actual Souls game”: The Soulsborne Gatekeeping Continues as Shadow of the Erdtree Players Revisit (and Fail At) Dark Souls
Perhaps many players took that for granted, asShadow of the Erdtreeis undoubtedly one of FromSoftware’s most challenging but fair gaming experiences so far. So, without the right expectations in mind, it is easy to see why people would have so many complaints about the expansion.
Elden Ring‘s legend, Let Me Solo Her, agrees too, as when talking about their recent poll on the game’s difficulty, they shared their thoughts, saying:

So the reaults are: out of 37,000 votes, 75% of people think that the DLC is hard, but a good majority of them think it’s hard in a good way which is what I agree with. Keep trying and overcoming difficult bosses are why people love the soulsborne genre ^^https://t.co/DrqODKRVbP
Admittedly, while FromSoftware may have left some bosses a little overturned with their extreme combos, damage, and health, very little—except Commander Gaius and the final boss; please fix them,FromSoftware.

It is a sentiment by the rest of the Souls community, too, as many veterans have stepped out, sharing their thoughts on the expansion and unanimously agreeing on its fairness.
However, seeing all this does beg the question of where all the negative comments and discussions surroundingShadow of the Erdtreestem from.

Why Do So Many Elden Ring Players Continue to Call Shadow of the Erdtree Too Difficult and Unfair?
While we wait for morenews surrounding the film adaptation ofElden Ring, let us attempt to understand why the debate surroundingShadow of the Erdtreehas far exceeded any discussion on the past games.
So, the prevalent theory is thatElden Ring, being one of the biggest games on the planet, suffers from a“tourist”problem. This refers to the players who either never truly experienced a Soulsborne game and its DLC.

“Oh my God it’s busted”: New Elden Ring Build Type is Broken and Makes a Mockery of Shadow of the Erdtree’s Difficulty
Any old player can tell that these games’ DLCs are often the most challenging parts of the game, but continue to adhere to FromSoftwares philosophy of letting players overcome insurmountable odds to feel a genuine sense of achievement.
So, when the new folks tried their hands at the expansion, they must’ve been taken aback by the steep difficulty curve. Combine that with the lowest of the lows that continue to prevent others for using things such as the Spirit Calling Bell or summons, and one can see where all this discussion may stem from.
With that said, do you agree with this theory? What other reasons could be causing these growing debates onShadow of the Erdtree‘s difficulty? Let us know in the comments below!
