Plus, a whopping 10 different starting classes make selecting a build easier than ever.

If playing as a beefy Barbarian is what you look for in a game, then this is just the place for you! This guide will go in-depth on how to most effectively build one of the most popular classes in the game: the Hero.
Base Stats
Right off the bat, players should notice that the Hero is an excellent starting class. Some of the most important stats such as Vigor (health), Endurance, andStrengthare all unbelievably high. This makes him/her a fantastic choice for those who are unfamiliar with the series, and for those who just want to be an absolute tank.
Intelligence
Starter Loadout
The Hero comes with somedecentstarting gear, as both the battle axe and leather shield are great at what they do. Unfortunately, these can’t be paired together until after a few level-ups, so try to find an alternative to the battle axe quickly if you want to use the shield.
As far as the starting armor goes, it is actually pretty decent. A full set of armor from the knights in front of Stormgate will suit most players better, but don’t stress ittoo muchearly game.

As always, select the Golden Seed when creating your character. Most other keepsakes become obsoleteveryrapidly after starting a new game. However, if you really want to take something else, the stonesword key isn’t too terrible of an option.
Important Gear
One major benefit of playing as the Hero is that he is pretty much good to goright off the bat. There isn’t going to be any egregious grinding required, and his battle axe outputs somegenuinelyimpressive damage. There really isn’t anydireneed to go too out of your way to find new weapons until later on.

It should go without saying, however, that there are still some amazing weapons in the starting areas that shoulddefinitelybe considered. One of the quickest and easiest to obtain, (theLordsworn’s Greatsword), is right outside Stormveil castle in the back of a wagon.
For some more heavy-hitting alternatives, items such as the Great Axe andBattle Hammershould only require a couple of level-ups to become viable.

As previously mentioned, theChampion Setisn’ttooterrible. That isn’t to say there aren’t better alternatives that can be found without too much effort. The knight set is available for purchase from the Twin-Maiden Husks at the Round Table for arelativelycheap price. Just make sure beforehand to make an attempt at the first boss,Margit, as fighting him is what unlocks the Round Table originally.
If spendingpreciousrunes on armor isn’t your cup of tea, then the Godrick Knight set is another fantastic set that you will greatly benefit from. To obtain the entire set, simply farm the Godrick soldiers in front of Stormgate, and one by one each piece should be acquired.

Leveling Up
As with most other classes in Elden Ring, try to maintain the balance of stats that the Hero began with. What this would mean for the Hero is to spend most of your runes on Vigor, Endurance, and Strength with the occasional point to Dexterity. Unless you frequently use ashes of war, spending runes on faith isn’t too wise.

It should also go without saying that runes shouldneverbe spent on faith or intelligence. If you want to play a mage, selecting hero is probably not a very good idea.
How To Play
The Hero is a heavy-hitter through and through. Don’t be afraid to grab a two-handed weapon and get your hands dirty! The Hero truly shines when the player knows how to time heavy attacks. Paycloseattention to each enemy’s move-set, because missing a heavy attack is surely going to cost you.
Patience is key here! Heroes aren’t generally going to be very agile, so the last thing you want to do is swing when you don’t have the time for it.
