Yesterday afternoon,EA Sportsannounced a major new update for its massive MMA fighting game,UFC 5. Along with a plethora of new fighters, today’s update is set to once again make some pretty major changes to striking, grappling, and more.

While the UFC community was initiallydisappointed by UFC 5’s lacklustre roster, EA has remained committed to adding new ranked fighters with each update. To date, the studio has added 11 new fighters to the game, with another 34 fighters set to be added between today and June. “Between April and June, we will introduce over 30 additional fighters to EA SPORTS UFC 5 and will reach 98% parity with the current UFC Top 10 Athlete Rankings,“EA announced in a new post.

EA Sports UFC 5 Review: A KO You’ve Seen Before

EA Sports UFC moves to a brand-new engine with UFC 5, but after a three-year wait, is that all there is to look forward to?

While all 30+ fighters won’t be dropping in one update, fans can expect 9 new fighters to be released with today’s update. Those fighters include:

Slap KOs? Count Me In

Like many of the previous UFC 5 updates, today’s is set to make some major balance adjustments to both striking and grappling.

For those looking to stand and bang, you’ll now need to keep a closer eye on your stamina, as EA has reduced stamina recovery between rounds by 20%. This means you can’t go out there in round one and give it all you’ve got, because if you don’t get the finish, you’ll likely be going into the second round with a huge disadvantage.

There has also been some vital changes to the way strikes track opponents when ducking. EA says it has improved the evasive properties of the stationary duck, as well as the advancing and retreating ducks. “It should reduce cases of strikes unnaturally aiming down at the opponent’s jaw as they duck already quite low,” EA said in regards to the stationary duck adjustment.

Other striking changes include the haymaker animation being slowed down by 2 frames, a 2 frame speed increase to the rear overhand, an increase to the stopping power of all leg kicks, and more. But what really caught my attention was the increase to the base damage of the slap.

“The slap was unnecessarily slow and didn’t have any power scaling to increase its damage based on punch power. Now it should hit more than twice as hard and be significantly faster. Let’s see who can score some slap KOs,” EA said in the latest patch notes. The studio went on to state that the slap’s base damage had been increased from 5 to 7.5, its damage scaling has been massively increased from 0% to 65%, and its execution reduced from 32 frames to 26 frames.

Who needs a Power Slap game when UFC 5’s slap just got such a massive buff? If you want to find out more about today’s update, head on over to the official EA website tocheck out the full patch notes.
