The cyclops is likely to be the first boss monsters you’ll encounter inDragon’s Dogma 2— you’re kind of railroaded into fighting one — and from that initial encounter, they seem like pretty tough customers. Although you’ll encounter several cyclopses on your trek throughCapcom’s action RPG, that first fight can be a particularly tough one, as it introduces you to the concept ofclimbing large monsters and depleting that big purple health bar at the top of the screen.

Still, things seem a little easier once you start a new game plus. As one player recently showed, it’s quite possible to survive that early encounter without so much as a scratch to youor your pawns, and what’s more, you can take down the big beastie in nearly one hit.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Players Are Calling Out This “Hilariously Bad” Stealth Quest

One player called it the worst quest they’ve ever done in a game.

Now That’s How You Take Down A Boss

The evidence of this comes from a video posted on Reddit. The Reddit user who posted it, Consistent_Blood4167, stated that it was not their own captured video, but one that was sent to them by a friend who was going through a new game plus run. Dragon’s Dogma 2 infamously offers just a single save slot, and it’s very difficult to start a new game, even from scratch, without creating an entirely new profile and deleting cloud data, and completing the game to start a new game plus is Capcom’s intended purpose for starting the story from the beginning.

In this particular new game plus, however, the Arisen and their Pawns seem pretty overpowered, as the cyclops goes from an almost-full health bar to face down in the dirt after receiving one massive fire spell. All four characters appear to be magic users (it’s not clear whether they’re mages, sorcerers, or a mix of multiple magic using classes), and they seem to be taking advantage of one of the game’s mechanics.

Dragons Dogma VS cyclops-1

Casting spells in Dragon’s Dogma 2 takes time, and the more powerful the spell, the longer it typically takes to cast uninterrupted. The general idea is that melee-focussed classes like warriors and thieves can keep enemies occupied while magic users stand to the back and prepare their spells, but the game also allows other magic users to piggyback on a spell that another Pawn or Arisen is casting, singnificantly shortening the time it takes to cast it. That certainly appears to be what’s happening here, and the results speak for themselves.

Is New Game Plus Too Easy?

Based on the guards accompanying the player and the cutscene that plays immediately after the cyclops' death animation, it’s relatively clear that this is the fight that occurs in the game’s opening hour. While it’s not uncommon for players to have a much easier time in a new game plus than they did on their original trek through a game, and the preseence of the guards accounts for both the early damage to tyhe cyclops and the diversion that allowed the spell to happen, this video is calling into question whether Capcom needs to up the ante for player’s who have already seen the credits roll.

Most things you’ve accumulated in a run through Dragon’s Dogma 2 carry over to a new game plus, but a lot of fans seem disappointed that there’s no difficulty spike once you restart the game. Said one Reddit user responding to the video, “Since the difficulty doesn’t change there’s honestly no point to it. Sure, you can re-do quests I guess but that’s about it.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Player’s

It doesn’t stop Dragon’s Dogma 2 from being one of the most exciting action RPGs of the year (check out our stellar review), but bumping up the difficulty for experienced players might be something for Capcom to considerpatching in later.
