Dragon’s Dogma 2has the unique Pawns system to fill out the rest of the player’s party. Alongside the Arisen will be a player’s main pawn, which can be created and customized as they will be your companion throughout the journey.
DualShockers Definitives: The 30 Best RPGs Of All Time
After weeks of debate and voting, DualShockers has assembled its list of the greatest, most influential, most important RPGs of all time.
Players will also be able to summon two additional Pawns from other players or the pre-made ones by Capcom to fill out the two additional party slots. Pawns come in just about every Vocation, and it’s important for players to use them efficiently, as many fights in the game will require a party of four.

10Something Is Better Than Nothing
Always Have 4 Party Members
When summoning Pawns in Riftstones, some will cost RC while others don’t. This is decided by the difference in level between the Arisen and that pawn, with higher-level pawns costing more RC than those lower in level than the Arisen.
For those running low on RC or trying to save up, it’s always better to summon a free, weaker pawn than nothing. Players can and should always have a party of four, as even the weakest pawn is better than no pawn at all.

9Use Commands
Send The Pawns First
Players will have four different commands to give pawns: Go! Help! Wait! and To Me! Go is great for ranged characters, as their pawns will charge ahead and engage the enemy while you’re able to stay safely in the back and rain down damage from afar.
“To me” and “Help” are great when combat gets thick, and you need to regroup or are just being overwhelmed. Wait is useful when players need to sneak around and check an area out without their pawns attacking the nearest enemy. Every command has its uses, which makes the pawns even more effective when the right commands are being used.

8Cover Each Role
Have Multiple Vocations Covered
Every Vocation has its strong suits in combat, with some sitting back and dealing damage or supporting the party and others running up and attacking the enemy directly. The Arisen and their main pawn can switch between vocations whenever they are unlocked at a vocation guild, and it’s up to the other two pawns in the party to fill out the rest of what makes the party strong.
Be sure to have melee fighters to distract your enemy away from ranged fighters and a mage almost always to heal up anyone nearby. The other two pawns are selected from a very wide pool of possible pawns, giving players incredible freedom to make their party however they see fit.

7Upgrade Your Main Pawn
Upgrade Their Gear & Skills
Your main pawn can be upgraded just about as much as the Arisen. While it will cost a lot of gold, be sure to stay on top of their gear, making sure they are using the best weapons and armor available for their Vocation.
Upgrading your main pawn won’t only help yourself in combat but also those who summon them. Whatever the stats and gear are of your pawn at the moment of being summoned will be exactly as they appear in either a random person or friend’s game, so be sure to give them a strong ally.

6Let The Pawns Do The Work
Pawns Will Collect Consumables
As players explore the world, pawns will do a lot of the foraging that many players would want to skip over. While picking up plants to combine into potions is necessary, many people would rather focus on the other aspects of the game.
10 Best Looking Open-World Games, Ranked
From Ghost of Tsushima to Cyberpunk 2077, here are the best looking open worlds in gaming.
While running alongside an item that can be picked up, pawns will, most of the time, do it for you. While this can’t be relied on 100% of the time, players will notice their pawns picking up large amounts of items that greatly come in handy.
5Give Them Items, Temporarily
Take Items Back Before Dismissing
The pawns summoned from riftstones have full inventories that players can use to store items for later use, letting them carry many more camping kits than usual. While the pawn will have the weight of their gear, this is usually a minimal amount.
While items can be given to these pawns, it’s important to remember that items given to them will be sent to the player’s storage when they are dismissed. Should the player’s main Pawn fully die, their inventory is locked off until the Pawn is revived. It’s important to rarely give Pawns quest items as they being dismissed or killed can have important quest items be sent to Storage instead of being near the player when needed.
4Stay Close In Battle
Pawns Can Restore Stamina When Out Of Breath
Conserving and usingStaminain combat is important for every Vocation. Should the Arisen run out of Stamina, they will be left out of breath and open to easy attacks from the enemy, along with an inability to act or use any skills.
Being near a pawn when this happens does offer a quicker recovery if the pawn makes it over and helps the Arisen. They will often stop whatever they are doing to help, letting players fight all out and rely on their pawns to restore their Stamina if the situation is right.
3Stay Close In Level
Summon New Pawns Often
Summoned pawns won’t earn XP and level up when in your world. While that pawn may be leveling up in their Arisen’s world, it won’t affect them at all after being summoned. Because of this, players should get used to replacing summoned pawns often.
While many pawns are free to summon, these can be dismissed, and new ones can be summoned as much as players would like, letting you always have pawns close to your level. Level greatly affects a pawn’s performance in battle, and hanging onto a weaker pawn for too long will begin to hold back the entire party.
2Unlock New Vocations
Pawns Of Only Unlocked Vocations Can Be Summoned
Even if players have found their ideal Vocation and don’t plan to make any changes, finding and unlocking other Vocations is still important when it comes to summoning pawns. Players are only able to summon pawns of Vocations they have already unlocked, limiting the versatility of a party down to the Arisen.
Unlocking and purchasing new Vocations can also be done on your main pawn, which can also further change up your party’s effectiveness without changing a preferred playstyle of the Arisen.
1Always Advanced Search
Find The Perfect Pawn For What You Need
When summoning new pawns from the riftstone, use the Advanced Search option to cut down on the bloat and find the perfect pawn for you. There will be more pawns able to be summoned than a player can count, and entering a riftstone will only let players see a random few.
Using the advanced searchcan let players find the right pawn of a certain Vocation, or specifically a pawn that knows the area or how to complete a current quest. While mixing and matching pawns is fun, building the perfect party will require planning, and the advanced search option puts that planning into action.
