Recently, director of the hotly anticipatedDOOM Eternal, Marty Stratton, sat down withMetroto discuss the upcoming shooter. One particular comment of note was when Metro asked Stratton about a small little title,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and whether or not we’d see the gruesome Doom Slayer making an appearance as a new fighter.

Stratton was upfront, stating that theyhave heard the rumorsand have even asked the parties-that-be at Nintendo for Doom Slayer to be included inSmash Ultimate. Stratton admits though that while they have asked, it has more been playful banter between Bethesda and Nintendo. A great relationship has come about during their work on theSwitch port ofDOOM, showing that the companies can clearly work together.

Seeing Doom Slayer go toe-to-toe with the likes of Solid Snake and Mario on a demon-infested Mars battleground would be quite the sight. The idea of this character’s inclusion exploded in popularity after thereveal ofPersona 5’sJoker. Joker coming toSmashseemed to announce to the world that the pool of possible DLC characters was going to be much wider.

Stratton may say that id Software hasn’t formally been asked by Nintendo to include the Doom Slayer as a character, but that’s exactly what someone who has been asked about such a thing would say. WithSmash Ultimate’sFighters Pass 1 coming to its finale next weekwith Byleth, we will have towait until December 2021 when Fighters Pass 2 wraps upto know for sure whether or not Stratton is tricking us.
