Taylor Sheridan Writes One Disturbing Scene IntoLandman
InTaylor Sheridan‘sLandman,Billy Bob Thorntonplays Tommy Norris. Norris works for a big Texas oil titan Monty, played by Jon Hamm, as a crisis executive at the company. Norris’ personal life includes his ex-wife Angela, played by Ali Larter, and his daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph).
“If anybody’s out there casting…”: Even Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Landman’ Cannot Fulfil Jon Hamm’s Dream of Playing a Role He’s Still Willing to Do at 53
Randolph’s Ainsley and Thornton’s Norris share an upfront relationship. To establish this, Sheridan writes a scene in the series that tries to show that this dad and daughter don’t need to censor their conversation with each other. In this particular scene, Thornton and Randolph’s characters discuss Ainsley having s*x and getting into intimate details about it.

While Sheridan’s choice of characterization allows for such a scene in his series, it does not take away the disturbing dad-daughter relationship portrayed. Fans quickly took to the comments to note that Sheridan had written similar lines between John and Beth Dutton inYellowstone. Others bashed the creator for his compulsion to portray women in a certain way.
Sheridan also received brutal criticism from fans who claimed to be family audiences. However, Sheridan made it clear earlier that neitherLandmannorYellowstoneare for family audiences. Some of the fan comments read:

Between Beth and John and now this, I think it’s safe to assume Taylor has some weird obsession between father daughter sex talks.
I’ll take “things you’d never say to your father” for $600…

Poor Taylor, in “Landman”, he still has a compulsion to depict girls/women (a young daughter) as disrespectful and exploitative as possible. Also, stereotypical writing of our great oil workers in Texas. Love Billy Bob’s acting but…. This is ridiculous.
Trying too effing hard, Sheridan.Families watch his shows together on Sundays. Imagine all the young women in the room with their daughters and then seeing this.

Good to know I’m not missing out on this trash
However, the disturbing father-daughter scene shouldn’t stop you from watchingLandman. The first two episodes that were dropped simultaneously hint at another great Western world from Sheridan afterYellowstone.

Landmanis Billy Bob Thornton’s one of the best performances of his career. He flawlessly plays Norris, a very grey-shaded lead character for the series who will give John Dutton a run for his money. Thornton’s very relationship with his ex and daughter is rooted in discomfort.
