SuperData Research has unveiled the top grossing games for the month of September in terms of digital sales only, with Bungie and Activision’sDestiny 2leading the way on consoles.
The launch ofDestiny 2’snew expansionForsakenwas enough to place it in the top spot for the month of September surpassing the release ofMarvel’s Spider-Man, which came in at second place. The fact thatDestiny 2is also available on both PS4 and Xbox One compared to only PS4 forMarvel’s Spider-Manalso surely gave it this edge. SuperData also notes that 60% of monthly active users onDestiny 2also purchased theForsakenexpansion.

Rounding out the top 5 for the month of September was another new release inFIFA 19.Fortnitealso continues to chart high on the digital charts slotting in at fourth while yet another new September release,NBA 2K19, rounded out the top 5.
It’s also worth noting thatFIFA 19andNBA 2K19in particular accumulated the best digital launch sales in each franchise’s respective history, though the digital numbers forNBA 2K19didn’t increase at the same rate as seen in the past. As forMarvel’s Spider-Man, it has become the best digital launch for a first-party Sony game by selling 2.17 million units. This surpasses the previous record which was held byGod of Warearlier this year.
In PC digital sales,Dungeon Fighter Onlinetook home the top spot for the month with the ever-massiveLeague of Legendsfollowing right behind it. And then with mobile,Honour of King,WW Speed, andPokemon GOmade of the top 3 entries on the list.
As a whole for the month of September, SuperData has revealed that consumers as a whole spent $1.24 billion on digital console games for the month, which is an increase year-over-year from last year’s mark of $912 million. This is due in part to the continued shift towards digital purchases in annual franchises such asFIFAandNBA 2K, along with the powerhouse that has becomeFortnite.
