Behaviour Interactive’sasymmetricalhorrorgame,Dead by Daylight, is merited for keeping the rosters of Survivors and Killers fresh, and the upcoming edition ofTomb Raider’sLara Croft even helped the gaming community discoverthe archeologist’s nationality. Feedback is constantly addressed by the studio, but players are disappointed in Behaviour’s recent response to The Trickster’s graphical issue that has been causing serious health concerns.

The survival multiplayer received an update last month with bug fixes and new Killer and Survivor Perk updates, and the studio was quick to void a change to theDisconnect Bots featurethat the community wasn’t happy about. Considering how receptive Behaviour was in scrapping that change, players want The Trickster’s epilepsy concerns to be taken more seriously.

According toRedditand X users who are a part of the DbD community, several complaints have been raised to Behaviour regarding the seizure dangers involved with The Trickster - a ranged Killer introduced in Chapter 19: All-Kill back in 2021. A graphics bug was reported to be attached to the Killer which caused extreme lighting issues which allegedly triggered epileptic seizures in several players.

In response to the complaints and the uproar from the community, DbD’s official X page released a statement yesterday acknowledging that the team had “taken great care in attempts to identify the reported graphical issue”. However, the devs were “not able to find anything reproducible” and claimed the issue was not “widespread”.

The post naturally received backlash accusing the studio of the “bare minimum response” and not putting player safety first. Despite Behaviour encouraging players to contact player support if they experienced the bug, the community thought the devs weren’t taking the issue seriously enough and there was a mass call for The Trickster to be “kill switched” - a function that allows the devs to temporarily switch off any character/item/cosmetic that are causing breaking issues within the game.

One player stated “The killers in the game shouldn’t be killers in real life. I think there has been enough of the community reporting to support that there is an issue and the Trickster needs to be kill switched”, and another gamer with a disability said “seeing issues like this in games is so heartbreaking”.

Lastly, a third player addressed Behaviour’s previous move to kill switch a character for more minor concerns, stating “I’m very disappointed in you DbD. I’ve witnessed you kill switch a killer because it had the wrong graphics on an outfit. But you couldn’t do it to help possibly save someone from an epileptic seizure or worse?”

As an alternative to kill switching the character, players thought the devs could at least “pop an announcement when players load” or add some sort of warning to protect players if the team were not willing to kill switch the Killer.

Considering the severity of the consequences caused by The Trickster’s graphical bug, Behaviour will likely follow up soon with a more immediate fix.
