Actor and musician David Soul passed away this Thursday at the age of 80, his wife Helen Snell said in a statement.
Soul was well known for his portrayal of Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson in the action television seriesStarsky and Hutch,which aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979. His natural chemistry with Paul Michael Glaser (detective David Starsky) in many ways set the framework for cop buddy movies and series of the 80s and 90s.

David Soulhas been away from the limelight for nearly a decade, with his last Hollywood appearance coming inFilth (2013), a movie about a corrupt, junkie cop.
Helen Snell, who tied the knot with Chicago-born Soul in 2010, confirmed he was fighting a health battle. Her statement read:
“David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family. He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
As per the actor’s website, Soul, who married five times, is survived by his current wife, six children from previous marriages, and seven grandchildren.
With his brilliant work as an actor as well as a musician – he recorded five albums – Soul has left a notable mark in the entertainment industry and his talent and blonde 70s appearance would certainly be fondly remembered by fans.
