We learned last year atE3 2018 that the indie smash-hitCupheadwas set to receive DLC entitledThe Delicious Last Courseat some point in 2019. Since this reveal though, further news on the upcoming addition toCupheadhas since fallen quiet. That is, until today.
Studio MDHR today released a brief new teaser trailer forThe Delicious Last Coursethat is only about 30 seconds in length. The new teaser shows off some upcoming gameplay footage from theCupheadadd-on and some of the game’s new bosses that will be coming with it. We also get to see some of Ms. Chalice in action, who will be a new playable character once the DLC launches. Likely most important though, Studio MDHR also announced thatThe Delicious Last Coursehas been pushed into 2020 for release.
Here’s a statement from Studio MDHR about the upcoming DLC and its delay:
“While we initially announced a 2019 release date for the ‘Delicious Last Course’ expansion, our highest priority is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for. We want to be absolutely certain that this next adventure feels at home in the world of ‘Cuphead’ and is full of moments that surprise and delight players. Furthermore, the development of the original game taught us a great deal about the importance of making things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team.
With that in mind, we’re taking a page out of Chef Saltbaker’s book, and spending the necessary time to get the recipe just right – this means that we’ll be moving the release of ‘The Delicious Last Course’ to 2020. This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we’re confident it’s one that will result in a higher quality experience that’s all the sweeter when it does arrive.”
While delays are never fun, I don’t think this one should come as much of a shock. Considering news onThe Delicious Last Coursehas been quiet for so long, it seemed feasible that the DLC might slip into next year. Not to mention,Cuphead’smain game itself was delayed quite a few times as well. It takes a lot of time to create these hand-crafted levels that the game offers.
