Best Party Composition
Considering the Clair Obscur boss fight includes two side enemies, one Light Clair enemy, and one Dark Obscur enemy, it’s important topick party members who can get rid of the side enemies quicklyso you can turn all your full attention to the boss.
The Light Clair enemy is weak to Dark and the Dark Obscur enemy is weak to Light. In this case, it’s best to haveVerso and Scielin your party to target their weaknesses.I recommend Maelleas the third party member, who will come in handy with her Fire skills.

Attack Breakdown
As previously mentioned, Clair Obscur has thesame attack pattern as the standard Light and Dark Clair and Obscur enemies. However, they hit much harder and can quickly drain your characters' health if you don’t parry or dodge them.
Let’s take a look at Clair Obscur’s full attack pattern and determine which attacks are best to dodge and which are best to parry.
Attack Indicator
“Clair Obscur Attacks.”
Clair Obscur targets one party member and strikes its sword four times. On the fourth attack, it executes a Gradient Attack. Each swing comes a second after the sword glows purple.
Parry the first three swings, and then use Gradient Counter on the fourth.
“Clair Obscur performs a Silencing combo.”
Clair Obscur lifts both its swords in the air, pulls them back and then shoots off three waves of light. The first two waves come back to back, but the third one has a delay.
“Clair Obscur performs a weakening Strike”
Clair Obscur launches into the air to power up, and then swings down in a circular fashion with both swords, targeting the entire party.
Parry right when the swing begins to counter.
Besides these attacks, you need to look out for Clair and Obscurapplying Protect to Clair Obscur.To counter this, use your gun to get rid of the shields. The rest of the attacks these enemies do are identical to Clair Obscur.
How To Beat Clair Obscur
The first thing you want to do during the Clair Obscur boss fight is totake out the Clair and Obscur enemies.The left one isweak to Light, while the one on the right isweak to Dark.
In this case, focus onattacking the left with Versoand theright one with Sciel.Use Verso’s Speed Burst skill to deal high Light damage andbuild up his Perfection Rank meter, until the enemy is dead.
Meanwhile, use Sciel’s Searing Bond skill tobuild up Foretelland exploit the right Clair’s weakness.
As Verso and Sciel both take care of their target,have Maelle focus on Clair Obscur and apply Burn. This can be done through her Pyrolyse ability, which applies 5 Burn for each hit (3 hits total).
After applying Burn,use Maelle’s Degagement skillto make Clair Obscur weak to that Fire, dealing additional damage.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: How To Beat Serpenphare
Look, a flying snake! What happens if I crash my flying friend into it? Oh… dammit.
Use Degagement every other turn to keep Clair Obscur weak to Fire (effects last two turns), and in between those turnsgain AP through basic attacks and through the help of Pictos and Luminas. Then use Pyrolyse when Maelle has enough AP (requires 9) to stack more Burn and deal high damage.
Once Sciel and Verso are done with their enemies, have them turn their attention to the boss and focus on using their strongest attacks. For example,Defiant StrikeandStrike Stormare great for Verso here.
At this point, Verso should have a high Perfection Rank and Sciel should have enough Sun Charges to enter a high-damage-dealing Twilight state.
Remember, to enter a Twilight state, Sciel needs to use at least one Moon and Sun skill. Since she has been using Searing Bond, a Sun skill up to this point, she’ll enter Twilight by using Grim Harvest.
Once Sciel enters Twilight, use her Twilight Dance ability to deal extreme dark damage to Clair Obscur and to keep her in a Twilight state. Now focus on applying Foretell through Searing Bond and use Twilight Dance again when Foretell is full.
