Christopher Nolan is not going to touch another film in the superhero genre after theDark Knighttrilogy. He was quick to reply with a“no”when asked the same during an interview. Nolan’s films, in which Christian Bale played Batman, are often hailed as some of the best superhero films of all time. However, it doesn’t mean Nolan is done with big franchises.

He couldn’t give a definitive answer when asked about directing aStar Warsfilm. It appears that George Lucas’ space opera films have always challenged theInceptiondirector, who once shared that he was afraid to touch the subject. According to the director, he first saw the 1977 film when he was just seven years old.

During an interview with French journalistHugoDécrypte, Nolan gave ‘yes or no’ answers to a bunch of rapid-fire questions. But he seemed quite sure about his decision to direct superhero films.
He is probably not going to return for a fourth movie in theBatmanseries, something actorChristian Baleshowed interest in. When asked about a fourth film in 2022, Bale toldScreenRantthat he would only play the role if Nolan was directing. He shared:

I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.
Fans should be happy that Nolan answered“yes”when asked if he would still be making films 10 years into the future. However, he shared that he is not interested in helming a TV show. While he wouldn’t touch the superhero genre again, he wasn’t sure about helming another big franchise.

I first saw Star Wars in 1977 when I was 7 years old, and I’ve never forgotten the incredible nature of that experience—the possibility of the screen opening up, sucking you in, and taking you to a different galaxy.

However, Lucasfilm is already engaged in the development of a new set ofStar Warsfilms. Nolan is not attached to these films as he is busy with his new film, an adaptation ofOdyssey.
The Dark Knighttrilogy is now available for streaming on Max.
