With Batman, Bruce Wayne, the murder of his parents, and, Catwoman in the mix, a sequel toBatman Beyondwas already an idea for Bruce Timm. The thought, however, would have gone down a very dark lane and might not have ended up looking good for the DCAU!
When Bruce Timm Had A Very Dark Idea ForBatman BeyondSequel!
It was the year 2000 when a film titledBatman Beyond: Return of the Jokerwas released. Having a high score on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, the film was a huge success, and naturally, plans for a sequel were already in motion.
As per theDCAU Wiki, Bruce Timm, a veteran member of the DCAU team had a very dark idea regarding a sequel. The idea involved Catwoman, multiple clones of Batman, and Terrence McGinnis and it would have been a devastating and yet, awesome sight to witness in Gotham City.

As per the idea, Catwoman would take the DNA of Batman (like Amanda Waller did in the comics) and make thousands of clones of Batman. And although the children born would have the genes of Bruce Wayne, the thing that truly made Batman Batman…was the killing of his parents in front of his own eyes.

Bruce Timmthought that after the clones were created, Catwoman would make the parents die in front of the literal thousands of children which would lead to them becoming Batman in the future and hence the name…Batman Beyond!
But Why Did Catwoman Want Hundreds of Batman?
Well, to put it into good words, Batman is too nice. Sometimes way too nice with criminals. With his no-killing rule, Batman often lets criminals with a warning. Catwoman wanted a Batman clone who would be stronger in his morals and would act violently when necessary and hence, the creation of thousands of clones and the killing of thousands of parents became a necessity.

The tale continued that one of the clones, she would raise as her own son. Well, he went on to become Terrence McGinnis. Mcginnis adopts the identity of Batman in the future after Bruce Wayne retires and hence, the title ofBatman Beyondcontinued.
Although the film would have been a controversial take on the world of Gotham and Batman, it would have been an iconic sight to see. The iconic 2000 filmBatman Beyond: Return of the Jokerreceived a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDB and a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
