One of the best signs of a well planned-out story is the foreshadowing, as it enriches the experience by slowly preparing the audience for what’s coming their way. InAttack on Titan, Hajime Isayama masterfully uses foreshadowing to hint at devastating future events. And for fans, there’s no better gratification than understanding these subtle signs during their first watch.

Moreover, this also makes the anime a rewarding experience to rewatch, as every rewatch reveals a new set of details. While rewatching it can be daunting, the foreshadowing inOne Pieceis highly regarded as well. There’s no doubt that Eiichiro Oda would appreciate Isayama’s style of storytelling. After all, it takes a genius to know one.
Eiichiro Oda would find Hajime Isayama’s use of foreshadowing impressive
One Piecehas been ongoing for almost three decades and there’s a great sense of joy in seeing loose threads getting tied up.Eiichiro Odaprepares the readers for potential revelations by giving them snippets of information like random puzzle pieces. There’s no better feeling for fans than seeing those puzzle pieces come together to form a complete picture.
For instance, the first hint about Sanji’s backstory was dropped fairly early on, when it was revealed that he is from North Blue or how Oden’s catchphrase was a direct hint about his death. Just like Oda,Hajime Isayamais highly regarded for how he creates a seamless flow in the narrative ofAttack on Titanwith the help of foreshadowing.

Real Reason Why One Piece Live-Action is Prioritized Over the Anime Proves Why No Other Mangaka Can be Like Eiichiro Oda
It has always been a key aspect of the plot progression in the series. The most striking instance of this is an interaction between Eren and Zeke, as pointed outby this Reddit thread. In this scene the shadows of both characters don’t show their heads which can directly be linked to their deaths as they were beheaded by the Ackermans.
While this is a great demonstration ofIsayama’s genius with plot twistsand foreshadowing, there are many other events that were foreshadowed by the mangaka throughout the series.

Best instances of foreshadowing inAttack on Titan
One of the first instances of foreshadowing was a scene at the beginning of the manga where Eren wakes up from his sleep, and asks Mikasa about her hair. Initially, it seems like a random scene but once Eren’s powers are revealed, we realize that Eren was referring to Mikasa’s shorter hair later in the series.
Before the revelation about Reiner and Bertholdt’s true identity happened in the series, Isayama showed us their reaction to the Beast Titan or the conversations between them and Annie, which were clear signs. Another scene that seems simplistic in the first few seasons and takes on an entirely different meaning in the later ones is Eren’s supposed death.

“I don’t really know whether that’s a good or a bad thing”: Hajime Isayama Accomplished an Impossible Task With Attack on Titan That We’re Still Debating Today
While escaping the Titan’s mouth in the second season, Eren says that he’d not die in Titan’s mouth but that’s exactly what ends up happening. All these scenes barely scratch the surface of the foreshadowing iceberg ofAttack on Titan. These scenes show how Isayama always had an idea aboutAOT’s ending and he ensured that every minor and major event throughout the series leads fans to that end.
Attack on Titanis available to stream on Crunchyroll.
