While we’re used to seeing games get delayed due to various reasons, Borderlands 4 is going the opposite direction, as the game’s release is getting moved up!
Back in February, Gearbox announced that Borderlands 4 would be released on consoles and PC on September 23. Today, 2K Games released a press release announcing the release date has been moved up a few weeks.

Borderlands may have bazillions of guns, but these ten are the weirdest that you can find across the series.
Borderlands 4 Is Still Getting Released In September But A Little Bit Earlier Now
The press release sent links to the message shared by the officialBorderlands X account, confirming the new release date of June 12, 2025. Not only that, but also that a new PlayStation State of Play is airing tomorrow, focused on Borderlands 4.
Gearbox mentions, “After careful consideration – along with a LOT of meetings, playtesttings, and incredible development work – we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCHE DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to September 12.”

The Borderlands 4 State of Play airs tomorrow, April 30, at 2 pm PT/5 pm ET, which should give us our first real gameplay look at the looter shooter.
This is good news, and it should mean that the game’s development is progressing well.

The popular looter shooter franchise is great despite having some weak points.
While a two-week release date update isn’t anything major, it does paint a different picture when you factor in that 2K Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive - the parent company of Rockstar Games, which we all know as the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has no release date, other than Take-Two repeatedlysaying it’s due for release later this year. With Borderlands 4’s release moving up, one might wonder if this means that it’s being done to give it more breathing space before GTA 6 releases a month or so after? This is purely conjecture on our end, but it does make sense. Take-Two won’t want GTA 6 to cannibalize Borderlands 4’s sales, so it needs to be released at least a few weeks or a month after Borderlands 4 has been released. If that’s the goal, then perhaps GTA 6 is targeting an October 2025 release?
While Borderlands 4 is getting a dedicated State of Play tomorrow, GTA 6 still hasn’t gotten a new trailer in over a year after its initial reveal shattered viewer records on streaming platforms.
