Sources tell Deadline Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film, a supernatural romantic thriller, based on an original story co-created by Shyamalan and global-bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks.
If that wasn’t crazy enough, the report continues: “Shyamalan andSparksare independently writing a screenplay and a novel, respectively, based on the same original love story.”

M. Night And Nicholas Sparks Are A Wild Pair
On the one hand,Nicholas Sparksis no stranger to cinema. 11 of his novels have been adapted into movies. The most popular of which isThe Notebook, the film that helped make Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling household names. He’s one of the best-selling romance writers of all time.
On the other hand, you wouldn’t expect an author so steeped in formulaic romance novels to do something as daring as teaming with horror auteur M. Night Shyamalan. But maybe that’s just where Sparks is at in his career—he’s ready for a new challenge.
For M. Night, this feels like par for the course. His entire career is based on surprising twists and turns, whether that’s shocking reveals at the end of a movie or never knowing how good (Split) or bad (The Last Airbender) an M. Night movie will be. The most consistent thing about Shyaman’s career is that you never know what to expect.
This isn’t the first time a filmmaker and novelist have collaborated on dual projects like this. Back in the 1960s, Stanley Kubrick and Isaac Asimov jointly developed the story of2001: ASpaceOdyssey,then each made their own version in their respective fields.
Jake Gyllenhaal And M. Night Working Together Is Destiny
