Netflix has recently released a new addition to itsSandmanuniverse calledDead Boy Detectives.Continuing in the magnificent world created by Neil Gaiman in the DC Universe, the show follows the story of two teenage ghosts who, along with a clairvoyant, work as supernatural detectives. The concept comes straight from the comics and was also created by theCoralinewriter.

The Occult comedy series brings some fresh faces, with actors like George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, and Kassius Nelson in central roles, as well as familiar actors like Ruth Connell, who is best known for her work inSupernatural,as well asThe White Lotus’Lukas Gage.

Even before its release, the series has gotten stellar reviews from all directions. Knowing this, many fans have gotten nervous, considering Netflix’s track record.
A Victory ForDead Boy Detectives
Dead Boy Detectiveshas officially been released on Netflix, and if its reviews are to be trusted, the series is excellent. This is not surprising since it is a spin-off ofSandman, a series with aRotten Tomatoesscore of 88%. Many sources have claimed the show to be very good, having a rating of 8 out of 10 onIMDb.
“Originally conceived of as a spinoff to Doom Patrol, then rejiggered as a Sandman spinoff when Max turned it down, Dead Boy Detectives has inherited from both of its spiritual parents a sensibility that’s a little bit melancholic, a little bit spooky and a lot bit irreverent.”THRsaid in their review.

Despite its gloomy outer shell, the series has been called a perfect mix of all its genres, being hilarious and dark at the same time. Many pointed out how it perfectly fitsNeil Gaiman’sother works, with the characters being magnificent and the storytelling even more so.
With all its praise, many fans have become extremely concerned, with the actions taken by Netflix in the past.

Netflix and Its Bad Habits
Netflix has gained a horrible reputation when it comes to successful shows. Far too often, they have been known to cancel shows that have excellent reviews and a large viewership, just because they do not break the internet. There are far too many examples of this, with some of the most famous beingShadow and Bone, Anne with an E, Warrior Nun, Society, I Am Not Okay With This, andeven Daredevil.
All of these shows have a lot in common; they were all in their prime, had an impressive, dedicated audience, and were very critically acclaimed. They were also all canceled very early on, never getting to complete their stories. The worst of it is the fact that fans always pushed back.

However, regardless of howmany petitions were signed, how trending their fight went, and how many fans were begging, the streaming service did not budge, and the shows were not renewed.

I feel like it’s going to be like with#WarriorNun, Lockwood & co, etc. There won’t be more than 2 seasons, eh, am I right, Netflix? Instead, first give a real ending to the shows you canceled for no reason. We know you can do it and that’s all we want!#SaveOURWarriorNunpic.twitter.com/JexO1CVDNP

Knowing this, many fans are concerned thatDead Boy Detectiveswill meet a similar fate, considering just how much acclaim it is getting. The efforts and cries of the shows that died can still be heard, and fans hope theSandmanspin-off does not end up in a similar grave.
