Melania Trump has returned to the White House with her husband Donald Trump aka the 47th President of the United States of America. The First Lady is all set to follow through with her duties as she accompanies him for the next four years to come. The two began dating shortly after bumping into each other at a 1998 party and while they have had their highs and lows, their relationship seems to be going strong.
Before her, though, Donald Trump had been through a few headline-worthy relationships and today, in particular, let’s talk about his affair with model and actress Marla Maples. Their relationship was constantly under media scrutiny and the pair eventually parted ways in 1997.
Marla Maples and Donald Trump’s highly-publicized relationship
Donald Trumpwas married to his first wife, Ivana Trump when he began an affair with Marla Maples. What started off as friendship soon turned into something more and while they strived to keep their relationship private, that didn’t last long.
And while the nature of their relationship stated otherwise, Maples never believed herself to be Trump’s“mistress.”That’s what she said on ABC News’ podcast,Journeys of Faith with Paula Faris.
Maples admitted that it would have been better if she had been with Trump after his divorce from Ivana. However, she knows better than to dwell on the would’ve and could’ve of their relationship. She said,“But it didn’t happen that way. Everything had to happen in the way that it did to bring us to where we are now.“

Their affair also resulted in a face-to-face confrontation between the two women and as perVanity Fair, onlookers at the restaurant could hear Ivana screaming,“I have a happy marriage. I’m very happy. Stay away from him! Stay away from us!.”But alas, faith had different plans for the married couple and they split in March 1990, and in 1993, Maples and Trump tied the knot after bringing their daughter into the world.

After Ivana and Trump’s divorce, the media was having the time of its life. They had so much to cover with the separation as well as with Trump’s new woman. Despite trying to hide from the cameras for two months, Maples was constantly in the news.

After their divorce in 1997, it was believed that she walked away with a fortune but when their prenup was revealed after 2 decades, the world learned that she received only a million dollars and another million dollars to buy a house. On top of that, Maples had to sell her engagement ring and other possessions to make money. She toldPEOPLE,“I feel very blessed for how my life is, but I do have to laugh when people think I walked away with a fortune.”
In 2017, Ivana released her book,Raising Trump,in which she called out Maples for destroying her happy family. She accused her of“knowingly entering into a relationship”with Trump, the father of Ivana’s three children (viaPEOPLE).
She blamed Maples for “humiliating” her in public and indirectly putting the three kids“at risk for months.”Before the book was released, Maples hoped Ivana would be able to forgive her and move on.
As for Trump, he is now in a happy marriage withMelania Trumpwith whom he has one child – Barron Trump, who is apparently asecret political assetfor her husband.
