Lori, with that stupid business with the sponge with the happy face. When she bought that business, I really didn’t mind it. I didn’t get it.

I went, ‘Who would want a smiley face in the kitchen in bright yellow?’ But then I went to my sister’s house a month later and she had those sponges all over the house, I hated Lori.

The Scrub Daddy’s journey from a rejected idea to a household name began when its inventor, Aaron Krause, faced setbacks. After being turned down by a Fortune 500 company, Krause’s innovative sponge sat forgotten in a box for three years.

Instead of indulging in luxury, she focuses on the perks — like accumulating free miles, which she gives away to family members. She shared,

The way I figure it is, a coach [economy] ticket [costs] about 25 percent of a first-class ticket. I get the free miles and I can give them away. I have everybody in my family flying on my free miles.

In the past, Barbara Corcoran also admitted to packing her own gourmet meals, preferring fresh fruit, cheese, and croissants over airport food. For her, it’s about maximizing value, not comfort.
