The Shar Cleric has one of the deepest personal quests in Baldur’s Gate 3.

After making these decisions, your companions' fates will be altered, sometimes for good, and sometimes for bad.Shadowheartis one of those companions whose fate rests in your hands. Here are the different outcomes for her after the final battle.

Betraying Shadowheart At House Of Grief

When you reach theHouse of Griefin Baldur’s Gate, Viconia DeVir will ask you to hand over Shadowheart before the battle. If you say no, you will have to fight everyone in the House of Grief. However, if you say yes, she will take Shadowheart and that will be the end of her story.

During this ending, you will not see Shadowheart again for the rest of the game.It is assumed that she is taken and forced back into the Sharran cult. This is probably the worst outcome for Shadowheart, and your companions will not be happy with you (evenLae’zel).

Selunite Shadowheart Without Parents

During Shadowheart’s questline, you will need to travel to theAncient Shar Temple, where you will find theGauntlet of Sharandthe Nightsong. Once you reach the end of the Gauntlet of Shar, you will learn that the Nightsong is actually Selune’s daughter. If Shadowheart chooses to save her, she will become a Selunite.Later in her quest, you will learn that Shadowheart’s parents are alive, and killing them will stop the curse she has.If you choose to have her kill them, she will no longer be hunted by Shar and her parents will be at peace.

In this ending, Shadowheart will be heartbroken without her parents, but she will finally be free. She will tell you that she has been living outside of town, saving animals. It seems she has turned into a really softhearted person. If you haveromanced her, she will mention that you have been with her while she has been saving them and the two of you have been living peacefully. This ending may be the best one for Shadowheart. Yes, her parents are gone, but Shar has no hold on her at all anymore—she is truly free.

Baldur’s Gate 3 - Epilogue Shadowheart

Selunite Shadowheart With Parents

This ending is very similar to the last one. While Shadowheart will need to save the Nightsong when she meets her, she will also need to decide to save her parents. However, saving her parents means that Shar does still have a slight grip on her, even if she is Selune’s Cleric now. She mentions that Shar will never truly let her be happy, no matter what.

This ending allows you to see Shadowheart build a relationship with her parents. She will mention how she has found somewhere to stay that is close to them, considering she never wants to be separated from them again. If you romanced her, she will mention that you have been staying with her these past few months after the battle. This is also an amazing ending for her, the only downside is Shar.

Shar Shadowheart Without Parents

If Shadowheart kills the Nightsong in the Gauntlet of Shar, she will continue to be a Sharran Cleric. Once you realize her parents are alive, she has the ability to still kill them, even though she can see what Shar has done to them. Shar will tell her that they are the way that she gets her power, and Shadowheart will make excuses for Shar. When she does this, she will be able to command Shar’s forces.

This ending is where Shadowheart truly gives in to Shar. It doesn’t matter if you romanced her or got as close to her as you can, you will mean nothing to her in the end. She will tell you that she will never forget you, but after that final battle, she will leave to stay at Shar’s side. This is a sad ending as it sees Shadowheart lean into the lies that Shar has been telling her for almost her entire life.

Baldur’s Gate 3: All Permanent Bonuses In The Game

Permanent bonuses in Baldur’s Gate 3 are rare and coveted. Here is a complete list of every last one and how to get them!

Shar Shadowheart With Parents

While Shadowheart will have to kill the Nightsong and stay as a Sharran Cleric for this ending, she will defy Shar and realize that her parents are her family, not Shar and her forces. She will tell Shar that she loves her parents and Shar will remind her that the curse she placed on her is very real and then will curse her to remember what she did to her parents whenever she looks at them.

This ending has Shadowheart staying a Sharran Cleric, but realizing the error of her thinking. She will be able to keep her parents with her but will be haunted anytime she sees them. Like before, she will mention that she is going to stay close to her parents. If you have romanced her, she will want you to come with them and help her forget her life before. However, Shar will always be there to remind her she is never truly free. This ending has more hope than the other Sharran ending, but it is still sad to see Shadowheart fall into Shar’s trap during the confrontation with the Nightsong.

Didn’t Complete Shadowheart’s Quest

If you did not finishShadowheart’s quest (The Chosen of Shar)(which culminates in her finding her parents), then she will tell you that she felt neglected. She says that while you were out saving the world from the Mindflayers and the Absolute, her needs were unmet.

While she understands why you did it, she will mention she needs to go out on her own and finish things for herself. After this, she will walk away from you and go out to figure things out for herself after the battle. This is an ending that isn’t a great one either.

Tav As A Mindflayer And Shadowheart Leaving Shar

If you decide to become aMindflayer, Shadowheart will understand. She will tell you that while she thinks you haven’t changed, other people will not see it the same way. Instead of Baldur’s Gate thanking you and hailing you as a hero, they will be terrified. She mentions that you will never truly be safe in the city.

If you were close to Shadowheart, she will offer to help you escape the city without anyone knowing your real identity. You would then be able to live out the rest of your life in peace. If you romanced her, you’re able to convince her to go with you and escape Baldur’s Gate together. While this isn’t the ideal ending for Shadowheart, it isn’t as bad as the ones where she sticks with Shar.

Shadowheart Becomes The Absolute (Origin Only)

The final ending for Shadowheart only happens if you play her Origin Story. In this type of playthrough, she will be your main character, and your choices are hers. Just like with a custom character, you may make multiple choices at the final battle, and in this ending,Shadowheart decides to become the Absolute.

In this ending, she willkill the Emperor, and decide to take the Netherstones for herself. This means that she will be the one controlling the Netherbrain from here on out. This ends with her sitting on the throne of the Absolute while those in your party stand around her. There will be a closeup of her where her eyes are bright blue before returning to her normal color. She will then say “in my name” before the game cuts to black. This ending is the perfect ending if you’ve ever wanted to play as an evil Shadowheart, otherwise, it isn’t the best.
