The anime and manga world is filled with prominent main characters who have made an impact on their series and on the community as a whole. Out of the vast list of protagonists in the industry, the two who probably have the most amount of popularity are Monkey D. Luffy from Eiichiro Oda’sOne Pieceand Eren Yeager from Hajime Isayam’sAttack on Titan.

Both characters have completely different lives, and their goals and achievements are also quite contrasting. The only similarity between the two was that they wanted to see the whole world since their childhood, and both of them completed their dream in different ways. However, the two protagonists not only reflect their own personalities but also the mindset of their creators.

Both Oda and Isayama are considered legends in the game, and their writing styles are opposite to each other. While Hajime Isayama is more concerned about the finish line, Oda is focused on the journey and the experiences his characters gain through it.

Hajime Isayama Wanted Eren To Have The Perfect Ending

Through Eren’s journey inAttack on Titan, Isayama wanted to portray that although things and scenarios change, the characters’ core values remain the same until the end. Thus, while Eren’s life goes through some drastic changes in the entire story, his core value to save everyone around him is the same and he carries it until the end, which gives him the perfect conclusion.

Isayama himself once revealed this during an interview with Shin Joho 7days Newscaster which was later shared byOtaku USA Magazine. The manga creator pointed out thatAttack on Titanfelt like a marathon to him.

Isyama stated:

I feel like I want to finish it… it feels like I’m nearly at the end of a marathon.

Thus, it’s quite evident from his statement that he is more concerned about the ending of the series and his main character, Eren than his overall journey.

Initially, Eren’s character was also compared with Thorfinn, the protagonist ofVinland Saga. This was because although the two characters were extremely similar in many aspects, and their journeys took a big turn when they grew older. Thorfinn went through character development and understood the outcome of violence, while Eren just started using it as an end to justify his means.

Eren’s core values remained the same throughout the story and it brought the biggest twist to the conclusion. This reflectedIsayama’s focus on making the endingpeak and leaving a lasting effect on the viewers.

Eiichiro Oda Wants Luffy To Enjoy HisOne PieceJourney

WhileHajime Isayamawas more concerned about the ending, Oda is completely different from him. TheOne Piecemanga creator has always emphasized the thrills and fun of Luffy’s journey along with his Straw Hat “nakamas.” This journey helped Luffy extensively in growing as a character and being chill about life rather than stressing about the end.

Luffy andEiichiro Oda’smindset is quite similar, and it was majorly reflected when Luffy had the chance to know everything about theOne Piecetreasure through Rayleigh in episode 400. However, he knew that it would ruin the fun and adventure of his journey, and thus, he decided to find out about the famous treasure on his own.

This is also one of the reasons why Oda has extended the series for more than 1100+ episodes. The manga creator wants Luffy to go through every phase of life andexperience the best growth possible, which would help him and also justify his recognition as the King of the Pirates inOne Piece.
