Duel Against Nagato
Immediately after the prologue missioninAssassin’s Creed Shadows, Naoe awakens from her injuries and stumbles around in a daze.
Due to her fuzzy state, she has a flashback from two years ago which begins with her dueling against Nagato, who was killed in the previous mission.
The duel against Nagato consists of four objectives. First, you need topick up Naoe’s Bokken, which is located right behind Nagato to the right.
Next, you need toGuard Break Nagato four times. Guard Breaks can be done by holding down R1/RB and releasing to deal a massive swing of the sword.

Now it’s time todeflect Nagato’s attacksfour times. In other words, you need toparry each attackwith the press of L1/LB whenever Nagato swings his sword (white indicator). Just a heads-up, he swings really fast, so this will take a lot of focus.
Last, but not least, you have todefeat Nagato in a duel. Use what you just learned through the practice duel to beat him. This includes Guard Breaks and deflecting attacks. Also, make sure to dodge Nagato’s red attacks, since those are not possible to counter.
After you beat Nagato in a duel, follow him down to the lower part of the area. He will mention that you should speak to Matsu, which becomes our next objective.
Finding Matsu’s Troublemaker
After speaking to Matsu, who is marked by a blue waypoint, it’s up to Naoe to find out who has been messing with her crops.
Head north from where you spoke to Matsu tofind a large towerandclimb to the top of itby using the yellow wood pieces up against the tree. Once you reach the top of the tower,look down from to find a dead animal in the distance.

Jump down from the tower into the hailbail below and make your way to the dead animal to examine it with triangle/Y and realize that it wasn’t killed naturally — it was killed by a human.
Due to Naoe’s good nature, she wants to find whoever killed the deer and make them face justice.
Confronting the Poachers
From the dead deer’s location, useL2 to observe the surrounding areaand look off to the left to findtwo blue dots labeled “Poacher.“Make your way over to these Poachers andconfront themfor what they have done.
When speaking to these Poachers, you’ll have two dialogue options to choose from: “You are thieves” or “We could have worked together.“No matter which dialogue option you choose, it will result in a fight to the death.
After killing the two enemies, which is a very straightforward fight, follow the waypoint back to the village and speak to Matsu to tell her about the Poachers stealing her crops.
Speaking to Matsu and Nagato
When speaking to Matsu, a short cutscene will commence where Nagato will rush in with unfortunate news of the enemy approaching.
A dialogue option will appear, where you can either ask Nagato to let you come or you can agree to stay back and keep guard.No matter which dialogue option you choosehere,Nagato will refuse to let you come and help.
After finishing the interaction with Matsu and Nagato, Naoe will wake up from her flashback, and you’ll be back in the present day.
Painting with Juniro
The first objective in the present day is topaint with a young boy named Juniro. He will ask you to follow him so he can teach you how to sneak up on animals to get the perfect shot for a painting.
So, follow Juniro until you reach a stone structure that contains a small animal inside.Crouch downand move very slowly toward this animal, whilepressing L2 to Observe.

As you get closer, the Observe icon will become smaller, and when it reaches its smallest point, Naoe will complete the painting.
Once you have successfully completed your painting of the small animal, follow Juniro to the next location and speak to him to complete this part of the quest.
Cutting Bamboo and Finding Lost Pages
After watching a very long, yet heartfelt cutscene of Naoe getting back into training and feeling healthy again, your last main objective is tocut bamboo around the premises.
Before you do that, though, the game introducesthe Lost Pagesmechanic, which you should engage with here.
The Lost Pages feature is a great way to earn Knowledge Points. The way it works is this: If you find all Lost Pages in a given Temple, you will earn a Knowledge Point.
During this mission, there arethree Lost Pages in the Makinoodera Temple. Let’s discuss how to find each.
Lost Page #1
Inside the mainwooden house, a Lost Page can be found buried in a handful of wooden boxes. Approach the wooden boxes and destroy them with your sword to reveal the Lost Page and press the corresponding button to collect it.
Lost Page #2
Off to the right of the wooden house where you found the first Lost Page, another Lost Page can be foundbehind a small stone pillar. Approach it and press the corresponding button to collect it.
Lost Page #3
The last Lost Page can be found on the opposite side of the temple,inside a destroyed building on the top floor.Enter the building and climb to the top to collect the final Lost Page.
With all the Lost Pages collected, you will earn yourself a Knowledge Point. Get enough Knowledge Points and you willearn yourself a Mastery Point, which can be used to unlock more skills for your character.
With that out of the way, make your way over to any bamboo and begin slicing it with your sword.
There’s a meter in the upper left corner of the screen, which you need to fill up by destroying as much bamboo as possible. Luckily, bamboo can be found anywhere in this area.
