Remembering Tetsuya Nomura’s words on Aerith
Back in June 2019, Tetsuya Nomura shared some comments on Aerith and Tifa that are particularly interesting to read now that we’ve digested theRemake. Tetsuya Nomura explained how Aerith was designed with Western looks and beauty in mind, while Tifa was made to look more like a Japanese girl with an emphasis on cuteness.
Nomura also mentioned Tifa and Aerith’s character designs were reworked in theRemaketo accentuate their differences. In particular, Tifa wears revealing clothes but bottles up her feelings. Meanwhile, Aerith looks like a naive and reserved girl, when she’s actually assertive.
Playing theRemakeand noticing how outspoken Aerith is made me think of Nomura’s comments in a new light.Final Fantasy VIIjust celebrated its 25th anniversary, so my memories of it are hazy, but I definitely don’t remember Aerith being so snarky & fun in the original. Maaya Sakamoto did an incredible job voicing Aerith in theRemake, and it’s one of her most amazing performances ever.
Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura recently mentioned thatFinal Fantasy VII Remake Part 2should be revealed in 2022.Square Enix already stated to be working on the sequel; Even before the first game was released in 2020. However, we haven’t seenanythingabout it yet. And the sequel doesn’t even have an official title yet, hence why everyone’s been calling it “part 2”.
