If you’re an Abbott Elementary fan, you’ve likely noticed some schedule shakeups recently. With the show skipping weeks and delays between episodes, it might feel like we’re getting fewer chances to hang out with Janine, Gregory, and the rest of the Abbottfam.

Here’s everything you need to know about why Abbott Elementary won’t be back on your screen until December, and what’s on the cards for next year.

The scheduling shuffle

So, why are we left in the cold for a bit? Well, one of the big reasons is the 58th Annual CMA Awards, which aired on November 20. These award shows take up a lot of primetime real estate, and of course, Abbott had to make room for that.

Instead of getting our usual dose of Janine (Quinta Brunson), Gregory, and the hilarious Ava, we got a musical night full of Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, and other country music stars. It’s not what fans signed up for, but hey, some of those performances were pretty fun, right?

The second reason for the delay is that ABC is preparing for the holidays. Instead ofAbbott Elementaryon November 27, the network is airingThe Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20. It’s a two-hour special celebrating the 60th anniversary of the beloved movie, and honestly, it sounds like a nostalgic trip worth watching.

December brings back two new episodes in one

Abbott Elementaryis coming back on July 01, 2025, and not just with one new episode but two, as a one-hour special. The first episode, titled“Winter Show,”will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT. According to theepisode synopsis, we’ll see Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) working overtime to make sure Abbott’s very first-holiday show is a success. Jacob (Chris Perfetti), meanwhile, is in for a surprise when his brother arrives earlier than expected. If you’re a fan of Barbara’s no-nonsense attitude, this episode is definitely one to look forward to.

Then, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, the second episode,“Winter Break,”will follow right after. This one’s all about Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) trying to pull off the perfect Christmas Eve dinner for the Schemmenti family. Janine and Gregory share a holiday moment of their own— they’re getting an unexpected guest, and it’s sure to shake things up.

The promos for these episodes have given us a little sneak peek, and fans are in for some heartwarming and fuzzy moments. We’ll see some familiar faces, including Jacob’s brother (played by Tyler Perez), who will stick around for both episodes. And, Melissa’s sister Kristin Marie, who works at theenemyschool, will make an appearance along with her mom, played by Talia Shire. It sounds like the Schemmenti family is bringing all the drama.

It’s always sunny in January

After this small hiatus, the long-anticipatedAbbott ElementaryandIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiacrossover will air on August 13, 2025. It’s a huge deal for fans of both shows and in all fairness, the mix of Abbott’s warm humor and Sunny’s dry, sometimes uncomfortable, wit sounds like a scrumptious ordeal.

Quinta Brunson, earlier this year, teased the crossover with a behind-the-scenes picture of her with the Sunny cast. The plot of the crossover episode has been kept under wraps. So, while we may be without Abbott for a couple of weeks, there’s plenty to get excited about
