The directing, animation, and psychological depth of the characters were praised by critics in their overwhelmingly positive assessments of the movie. Globally, it has brought in over $31.6 million. The movie was named the Best Animated Feature Film by the Japanese Movie Critics Association.

What annoyed me the most was how it clearly had scenes showing how the school system failed her for her disability (such as declining sign language classes for convenience) but more or less brushed it off to focus on the bullying reformed arc 💀
