Robert Downey Jr. might have been an actor before 2008. But it was starring in MCU’sIron Manthat made him a ‘star’. That was the story of many stars who featured in the MCU. Their fandom would be elevated to a new level entirely. Yet, the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t suggest that everything turns out well for an actor who makes the cut. Over its 15-year-old history, there have been some roles that failed to impress as much as others.

List of stars who deserved better in the MCU
The people at the helm of the MCU also made their fair share of mistakes, including entrusting certain stars with roles that did not do justice to their skill set. And Redditors have prepared a list of seven stars such stars, who wasted their potential by starring in the MCU. Here is a list of ‘the seven’.
Aaron Taylor Johnson
When it was announced that Aaron Taylor Johnson would essay the role of Quicksilver in the MCU, comic book fans were excited that they would go to see a rendition of their favorite speedster on the big screens for the first time in a long time. Yet, it didn’t go according to plan. The fact that he died at the end of his debut movie left many Marvel fans in tears. But they weren’t the only ones who were left disappointed.
Fans who have seen what Aaron Taylor Johnson can do know that the 33-year-old was not given an assignment that could do his skill set justice.

Andy Serkis
It is no secret that Andy Serkis is a veteran of many movies. Having created a name for himself in the industry, Marvel Studios thought that they had got their man when he was cast as Ulysses Klaue, a man who engages in the illegal smuggling of Vibranium. Having made his debut inAvengers: Age of Ultron,he wasn’t given the chance to make the role his own.Black Panthercould have provided his character a second wind. But that was not to be. It’s a tragedy that Klaue had to die in the movie, bringing his MCU career to an end.
Christian Bale
Christian Bale was yet another star whose inclusion in the MCU garnered a lot of attention from the fans. Many stars have been a part of the franchise at some point. And it won’t be amiss to claim that none of them are as versatile asThe Prestigestar. And he did the best he could. But everyone knew that it did not do justice to his skills. Gorr, the God Butcher, was yet another Marvel character who promised a lot but failed to live up to the promise.
Jake Gyllenhaal
One of the most controversial inclusions in the list. Jake Gyllenhaal played the role of Mysterio inSpider-Man: Far From Home.Though the character was not able to live up to the expectations, it would be a little harsh to say that he disappointed. TheBrokeback Mountainstar was his usual self in the movie. His character had a compelling backstory as well (not very common for a Marvel villain). No wonder various Redditors were disappointed when he made it into the list.

Winston Duke
Andy Serkis would be happy to see that he’s not the onlyBlack Pantherstar on the list. Winston Duke, the man who played M’Baku, has made it to Reddit’s list of actors who did not get the role they deserve in the MCU. Having climbed his way to the top by doing theatre, theUsstar may have made his feature film debut with the Chadwick Boseman starrer, but he has proved his mettle in a short stint in the industry. And we all know that his role as M’Baku was only a part of what he can really do.
Thomas Haden Church
Now this one is just an outright disappointment. The MCU has a history of turning failures into successes, elevating small characters to a pedestal where they are the only thing fans can dream of. That is why Thomas Haden Church AKA Sandman’s story is an aberration. The 63-year-old first reserved a spot in the heart of every Spider-Man fan with his role inSpider-Man 3,only to return inSpider-Man: No Way Hometo sully all the good work that he did. However, it can be argued that the primary reason behind his lackluster performance was the fact that he never actually appeared on set.
Yet, Reddit has given its verdict.
Benicio Del Toro
Probably the star with the highest screen time on the list, Benicio Del Toro essayed the role of Taneleer Tivan over 3 movies, primarily featuring inGuardians of the Galaxy. The head of the Tivan family, the Collector had enormous power right at his fingertips. Yet, he didn’t take it into his own hands. Not that it comes as a shocker, he is the ‘Collector’ after all. But fans wanted to see more of theThor: The Dark Worldstar. You expect more from the guy who happens to be in possession of the largest collection of everything that can be found in the whole MCU.
