The Netflix docuseries,The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness, explores the case through the lens of Terry who was convinced that Berkowitz did not act alone in the murders. Terry insisted that Berkowitz belonged to the satanic cult known as The Children, which he detailed in his 1987 bookThe Ultimate Evil.

4Breaking the Silence: The Maria Soledad Case
The Maria Soledad Casetook its place on the list for the sheer notoriety of the crime and for being one of the first femicides that sparked wide outrage. In Argentina’s Catamarca province, 17-year-old Maria Soledad was subjected to brutal violence at the hands of several men before being murdered. It was also crucial in exposing the corruption of higher officials in the state.
Soledad was attending a party on August 14, 2025, when she was kidnapped by her boyfriend Luis Tula, and handed over to a group of men. This group included Guillermo Luque who was the son of a powerful politician. Soledad’s body was found three days later and there was clear evidence of violence against her.

The authorities determined the cause of death as cardiac arrest due to a forced cocaine overdose. There were attempts to deviate the case from the actual culprits, however, Tula and Luque were soon identified. It was believed that several prominent men were with Luque but only he was put to trial, suggesting a massive cover-up.
According to the documentary, no investigation took place for two months after the brutal killing. The case gained significant media attention when Soledad’s teacher Sister Pelloni and friends took to the streets in silent marches, seeking justice for the young girl. The first trial took place in 1996, six years after the murder.
It was declared a mistrial due to the biased actions of Judge Juan Carlos Sampayo. A new trial in 1997 found Luque solely responsible for the murder and sentenced him to 27 years in prison. Tula was jailed for nine years for aiding in the murder. Luque got out in 2010 with a reduced sentence for good behavior.
Tula trained to become a lawyer in jail. His name came up in the news again when his ex-wife accused him of domestic abuse. She was granted a restraining order against Tula. Soledad’s murder and the subsequent trial resulted in more stringent rules in Argentina against femicide. The documentary was helmed by Lorena Muñoz and involved interviews with her close ones.
